Our Thoughts on Plastic, Play and the Planet

We had the absolute pleasure of visiting Spielwarenmesse 2026 — our 10th time as littleCONCEPTS and maybe my 20th time overall. A lot has changed… but one thing has stayed constant: the Bilibo.

At first glance, Bilibo looks different from many of the toys we sell. It’s not wooden. It’s not delicate. And yes — it’s plastic. But not all plastic is created equal.

Bilibo is made from high-quality, food-grade HD-PE, a material chosen not for trends but for longevity. This is a toy designed to last — not weeks or months, but years. In fact, many of our customers tell us their Bilibo has been loved by multiple children as they grow, learn, imagine, and play in completely different ways over time.

This year, Bilibo celebrates its 25th anniversary, and that milestone says a lot. A toy that’s still relevant, still joyful, and still in use decades later is a powerful reminder that the most sustainable toy is often the one that doesn’t need replacing.

Many toys are designed for very specific ages or stages. Once that stage passes, they’re often outgrown and set aside. A toy that only works for a short window — even if it’s beautifully made — still carries an environmental cost every time it’s produced, shipped, and replaced.

Bilibo is different. It grows with the child. It’s open-ended, endlessly adaptable, and resilient enough to survive real family life. And when its play journey eventually ends, HD-PE is fully recyclable, keeping it out of landfill and within a circular materials system.

Beyond sustainability, Bilibo’s design excellence has been recognised around the world. Over the past 25 years, it has earned numerous international awards — including the Swiss Federal Design Award, the U.S. Toy of the Year (TOTY®), and Germany’s prestigious spiel gut® seal for outstanding play value. It’s also trusted by child development specialists, occupational therapists, and educators worldwide for its ability to support movement, creativity, and open-ended learning.

For us, conscious play isn’t about perfection — it’s about thoughtful choices. Toys that last longer. Toys that adapt rather than expire. Toys that are loved hard, shared widely, and kept in play for as long as possible.

That’s why Bilibo has earned its place here — not despite being plastic, but because it proves that durability, design, and longevity matter.

We look forward to visiting Spielwarenmesse again next year, and we know MOLUK — made up of Alex and his sister Doris, will be there again. Playfully, confidently and expertly creating toys with real purpose.

Here’s to another 25 years of Bilibo.
